ALFACAM ADDS AN ADDITIONAL 34 ZANDAR MULTIVIEWERS FOR ITS HDTV
OB TRUCKS

Alfacam, the biggest HDTV OB operator in Europe has installed
an additional 34 Zandar DX Series MultiViewers in its three latest
OB trucks. This Belgium based operator whose innovative vehicles
continuously pioneer with new technologies and facilities now has
13 HDTV trucks on the road at events such as Euro 2004 European
Soccer Championships and the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics.
Harnessing on the uptake of HDTV production, the new OB trucks,
OB-18, OB-20 & OB-21 have been equipped with a total of 34 DX
Series MultiViewers, making a total of over 75 DX MultiViewers in
use by Alfacam. The DX products were selected for their compact
size, being only 1RU, and versatility since they can automatically
accept SDI and composite inputs, negating the need for external
converters for monitoring purposes. Joost Davidson, the Chief Engineer
at Alfacam comments “the fact that we can also have analogue,
digital and VGA outputs is very helpful to us in managing output
monitoring. We use the automatic input signal detection and find
that tally and UMD integration allows us a much more efficient form
of monitoring. Zandar has a very well equipped package which is
extremely multi functional and matched by its price competitiveness”.
In an interesting application the DX Series MultiViewers are used
tomonitor the input signals to the EVS slow motion recorders used
in live events. Each input to the slow motion recorders is
monitored on the Zandar units for content, thus allowing OB Production
staff to verify that the correct signals are being recorded for
instant replay to national and international client networks. With
up to 10 slow motion devices in each truck simultaneously recording
up to 40 channels, it is vital to ensure that the appropriate devices
have the correct feeds. The DX Series are therefore not only important
but an essential part of each OB truck and reflective of Alfacams’
clever and innovative approach to mobile TV production.
