DISCOVERY DISCOVERS THE BENEFITS OF DX FROM ZANDAR
August 18th 2004
Zandar announced today that Discovery Communications, Inc. has
selected the companys DX Series MultiViewers for signal monitoring
at the Discovery Creative and Technology Center (DCTC) in Silver
Spring, Maryland.
As part of an on-going development program, the addition of a number
of new channels to their in-house cable offering presented Discovery
with a need for channel monitoring. The companys engineers
decided to adopt MultiViewer technology for signal monitoring, resulting
in saved spaced and reduced costs. After extensive market evaluation,
they chose Zandars popular DX Series MultiViewers for viewing
all network return signals from Discoverys US networks. Like
many users, Discovery found that MultiViewer technology presents
many advantages over traditional dedicated-picture monitors, including
the aforementioned space savings and cost reduction in addition
to simplified installation. Uniquely, the DX series will automatically
detect the appropriate input signal type, whether analog or digital
although at this particular site all inputs are currently
NTSC.
Hooked into Discoverys cable head end, these MultiViewers
provide distributed NTSC signal monitoring from down linked signals
from all of Discoverys US networks. They play a key role in
allowing operations staff to instantly monitor each channel and,
according to a company representative, have allowed Discovery
to simplify its in-house operations while reducing costs and better
managing its channels. The MultiViewers provide high-quality,
confidence monitoring for two satellite transponders, with one unit
displaying 9 networks and the other displaying 5 networks, one being
a down converted feed of Discovery HD Theater.
Once again the Zandar solution has proven a winner in high volume
broadcast monitoring.
