NEW TPC HDTV OB TRUCK TAKES TO THE ROAD WITH ZANDAR

Zandar
Technologies, the leading innovator in MultiViewer technology, has
successfully completed
a project for Sony Professional Services which sees seventeen HD
MultiViewers integrated into an advanced HDTV capable OB truck for
Switzerland's largest TV production company, tpc.
Designed and built by Sony Professional Services, this new
vehicle uses the very latest in digital technology to set new
standards in
OB
vehicle design. Fully
HDTV and SDI capable, this new tpc vehicle is one of
Europe's largest and most advanced
OB
trucks and hits the road this winter with Zandar Predator HD
MultiViewers at its very heart to drive an impressive and innovative
large production monitor wall of high quality images.
In
the critical production area of the vehicle is an exceptionally
compact, state-of-the-art monitoring stack where production crews
can view up to 66 sources in either SDI or HDTV formats according to
production requirements. In total there are 17 Predator HD4
MultiViewers feeding a bank of Sony LCD displays. The combination of
multi format LCD panels and auto-sensing SDI & HDTV MultiViewer
technology not only reduces weight and equipment size to less than
half of a traditional CRT monitoring wall equivalent but also
provides much greater flexibility as the truck can be reconfigured
at the touch of a button to meet different production requirements
at each event.
Taking
advantage of the latest technologies Sony Professional Services
sought to deliver an exceptionally flexible OB Truck and in doing so
required state of the art equipment that could meet the challenges
of the project. "During
the design stages we demonstrated our capability by developing some
innovative new display features specifically for this pioneering
truck," explains

versatility of Zandar MultiViewers allowed us to effectively emulate
a CRT monitor wall on the Sony LCD display wall just as the client
wanted it - it was important that we offered a display solution
that would allow the tpc production crew to easily distinguish each
picture source."
Whilst
the truck is SDI and HDTV capable tpc also wanted to make better use
of their time at each event and reduce set up. The MultiViewer
systems are integrated with a sophisticated BFE control
system which can change the set up in the truck according to the
needs of the production crews at each location. Reflecting the
innovative design criteria, this system can control 16
Zandar
Predator HD4 units simultaneously, dynamically switching between
quad-split and full screen modes as well as changing the UMD overlay
and tally information for up to 64 sources. This powerful
reconfiguration facility not only means that the production crews
can therefore choose to view large or small images together with
their source identifications but that less capital expenditure on
equipment was required in comparison to more traditional style
vehicles.
Thanks
to the collaborative approach and rapid delivery of custom
requirements, installation time was reduced to a minimum.. This
project is further testament of
Zandar's
